The Southwest Georgia RDC is able to assist localities with  transportation planning. This is done through various funding methods. Two of the most notable are The Department of Human Resource (DHR) transportation administration contract and the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) service delivery contract.

The RDC coordinates transportation for DHR clients and human service agencies in compliance with the DHR administration contract. With this administration, revenue is collected and a large portion of the revenue allows the RDC to perform technical and financial tasks for localities in the assistance of public transportation programs. Essentially this will allow the RDC to help bring Rural Public Transportation to all the counties throughout the region.

The second contract with GDOT allows the RDC to perform various alternative transportation planning tasks in addition to various data collection services. The links below will help explain these services and other transportation tasks the RDC is currently undertaking.

 

Regional Transportation Collaborative

The Regional Transportation Collaborative was formed by the RDC in the attempt to get local input into the Regional Agenda process. Annually, the RDC updates its Regional Agenda, which has various sections, including transportation. By holding these meetings, the RDC can gather information for what needs to be included in the Agenda. The Transportation Planner will then assemble the information in the appropriate format and have it submitted for update. This should make the content and use of the Agenda more effective than in the past.

RDC Transportation Committee

One of the tasks of the RDC Board of Directors is to review and approve certain activities of the RDC and its staff. Since  the amount of activities from the past has grown, the RDC Executive Director has formed four "issue committees," which will review specific areas of activity. The Transportation Committee has become very active in the development of the RDC's participation in local and regional transportation matters. The Transportation Committee meets bi-monthly at the RDC before the Board of Directors meeting. These meetings are open to the public. DHR Transportation Administration Contract

The Department of Human Resources Administration Contract is a significant contract at the RDC. Its funds allow us to aid localities with public transportation (Section 5311 topic).
